Betty Clipman
Betty Clipman is a dynamic, highly-talented musical leader. She uses her unique style of teaching, coaching, and management skills to enhance the lives of those who sing music in the barbershop style and to enhance the music they sing. Betty's list of credentials is impressive. Among these, she served as International President, chaired numerous international committees, achieved Certified Judge status in sound and expression categories, won a gold medal as a quartet singer ("The Penna-Fores"), and directed the Vienna Falls Chorus to their international gold medal. In 2000 she received the President's Lifetime Achievement Award, honoring her contributions to and achievements within the Sweet Adelines International organization.
Betty served as the HHC chorus director from 1989 to 2001. Now a fulltime coach, Betty spends her time traveling the world coaching choruses and quartets. The members of Houston Horizon Chorus love and respect her. We look forward to her coaching visits and the inspiration that she provides. Her positive attitude and enthusiasm are contagious. Betty continually strives to help us to be the best we can be.
Dale Syverson
Dale is a legend within Sweet Adelines International. Her creativity and musical expertise are astounding, earning her many honors including two-time International Quartet Champion, three-time International Chorus Champion (as director of The Richtones), and the Lifetime Achievement Award. She is extremely dedicated to education especially as it relates to correct singing technique and conveying the message of a song to the audience. She is the master of demonstrating various vocal techniques and of explaining new concepts in easily understood terms. As if that were not enough, Dale's sense of humor is healthy and hearty. It's easy to see why the members of HHC love and respect Dale so much!
Joe Connelly
Joe is Mr. Barbershop! He is known far and wide within Sweet Adelines International and the men's Barbershop Harmony Society. As a second-generation barbershopper since age 13, he has earned many accolades as a performer and as a coach. Among these accolades are: three-time International Quartet Champion, certified Presentation judge, and director of the Southern Gateway Chorus.
Joe is a fulltime barbershopper who travels around the globe sharing his talents as a coach and teacher with many male and female choruses and quartets. His charisma, sense of humor, positive attitude, and enthusiasm for singing and performing are second to none. HHC members enjoy his friendly, encouraging style of coaching. They also enjoy kidding him about his attire and his gallon jug!
