Founded in 1981, Houston Horizon is an award-winning chorus that has been delighting audiences with its joyful a cappella harmonies ever since. This diverse and inclusive group of women thrives on entertaining, performing, and competing on national and international platforms, as well as at community events and private gatherings. Through our passion for singing, the chorus strives to foster musical excellence, promote educational opportunities, and encourage female friendships. We are a non-profit organization dedicated to the education of women in the art of singing four-part harmony, barbershop style.
With approximately 45 members from North America, Europe, and the Asia Pacific region, our group embodies a blend of cultures and generations, with individuals in their mid-20s to those in their mid-80s. United by our love for singing, talent for harmony, and eagerness to learn, we create a vibrant and dynamic ensemble. Houston Horizon's repertoire features classic barbershop harmonies and a cappella arrangements, showcasing beloved pop hits and musical theatre tunes.
Houston Horizon Chorus boasts a rich history as a premier chapter of Sweet Adelines International, a women's musical organization made up of over 33,000 voices around the world. As a competitive barbershop chorus, Houston Horizon has enjoyed recognition on the regional and international stage.
Houston Horizon Chorus is a part of the Great Gulf Coast Region 10, which includes many areas of Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama. We have friends all over the world singing in other choruses that we see at our Regional and International conventions. We most recently competed at the Sweet Adelines International Competition in New Orleans, LA in September 2019, and we are looking forward to returning to the international stage this October, in Columbus, OH! Under the direction of Janet Burnett, Houston Horizon Chorus continues to grow and strive for excellence, while gaining the knowledge and experience to provide our audiences with quality entertainment at a professional level.
We are not professional singers, but teachers, nurses, accountants, IT managers, doctors, event planners, volunteers, homemakers and retirees! We come together one night a week to share in the joy of singing with friends. The friends you will make in the chorus are friends you'll have for life!
